I hereby award the internet to whoever can recreate something along the lines of Theo Jansen's "Strandbeests"

the weight of the motor compared to the rigidity of the beams/joints just doesnt line up I think. plenty of tweaking to do. You can add beams to the legs to help them stand, but then they loose the main design principle that makes it walk smoothly

i try to reproduce the design, but also endup whit a desaster, so i try to make it simpler whit a support and only the first part of each legs, but as soon as i add more part everything fall apart.

This is a much more helpful video I think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GgOn66knqA&NR=1

I think you need to get the angels and measurements really exact for this to work. And all his beasts have a really large number of sets of legs, I think you would need to make four precise sets for it to work. Here's my failed atempt, at least mine doesn't fall apart: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=105240

here is my attempt. it actually makes a couple of steps but it is not very nice anyway.

If you are patient you can event see a third step... :P
It needs a lot of precession to work properly. Also the distance from the center of the motor that you can bind is quite long for this so it propably needs to be even bigger than mine to work right. You can make the bottom part of the legs smaller so that it doesn't turn out huge.

i tried to build one too, but i think it is impossible to make it really walk, because the sticks are too flexible.

I agree, the sticks are just not stable enough. I made the walker in Phun though (and it has been tweaked to perfection by the community there). You might want to give it a try.
