It appears that FCR was truncating the XML data of larger designs and levels too... This has been fixed.

~24,000 designs are cached, consuming ~450 MB.

Yeah, I think the XML data is up to a few dozen gigs now with nearly 2 million designs.

If you have unpublished designs/levels that appear in the Search, go to your "My Designs" page at FCR and scroll through all the pages.

Mass and object counts are currently incorrect regarding levels with dynamic wheel objects.

The lookup box on FCR now takes design and level URLs.

Level pages now show ranking #.

Registered (paid) users can now rate levels and designs once they've logged in. Rating a level/design will show the average rating for that level/design. Rating levels will also show what effect it has on that particular level's ranking (JavaScript required).

sk89q, first off, thanks for building such an excellent resource.

I had an idea for a tool that could help out the community. It would basically be a "Discuss Level" link for each level. The FC Resource would check the forum for a subject like "Level discussion: $LevelTitle ($LevelId) - FC Resource", and if it found it, the link would redirect there. If it did not find it, it would link the user to a new page in the forum with that subject, so the user could start a new thread. This will basically complement the "Find mentions of this level" link, to make it a two-way interaction with the forum.

If we wanted to get really fancy, the FC Resource could display the thread for each level (if the thread exists), on that level's page.

I know there are a few issues with this, but I wanted to get the idea out there, absolutely no pressure to build it. :)

That's only for the free levels, and considering how many player levels there are now, it would be ridiculous to manually maintain it for all player levels.

Given the current situation regarding the overloaded-ness of the server, I don't think it's a feasible idea at the moment.

Secure mode now puts a box over the back button so that you can't press "Back" and lose your design/level.

http://fc.therisenrealm.com/wiki/FCReso ... L_importer
http://fc.therisenrealm.com/importfclml

The level FCLML importer allows you to import FCLML level data and save them as levels on Fantastic Contraption. So what's FCLML? It's an easy to read, easy to write, and easy to learn markup language that can define objects in Fantastic Contraption. With FCLML, you can define the exact coordinates or angle of a particular piece by hand, and so you essentially can have a mathematically perfect level. Although tweaking existing levels may be a pain, it comes in handy when adding more objects. Say you wanted 20 dynamic rectangles of the same dimensions; just write the corresponding FCLML line and copy it 20 times over. You're done.

jtbowden made an SVG -> FCLML converter, and got this:

This is awesome. I think this is a great way to represent levels.

And because whenever I see something awesome, it gets me brainstorming:

If this were to be expanded to handle designs as well, you could prospectively move contraptions from one level to another level. This is not trivial, of course, since all the parts bounding boxes would need to be within the build area, and they can't overlap level pieces. Also, if the design includes a goal piece, that goal piece might not exist in another level.

I don't foresee allowing the FCLML import of designs at the moment for those reasons. Although if anyone felt like writing the collision detection and bounding area check code for me, it could be a possibility.

FC Resource is back up! You'll need to wait until your upstream DNS cache(s) are updated, but it might already be working for you!
