I was originally intending for the tall vehicle to push the ball then roll into position as a ramp, but the smaller vehicle had other plans. Through some stroke of luck (And my accidental addition of a third wheel) I managed to win anyway.

Those tiny target balls have notoriously bad physics; my guess is that the force behind it caused it to go slightly inside the ground when it landed, and thus inside the part of the goal area that's inside the ground. It's difficult to be sure, though, as the victory cloud obscures the landing.
