If the counter isn't showing for you, hold 'ctrl' and press F5 whilst in game to 'refresh' the cached game applet, then it should show correctly.

have to agree that the counter is there only for those that know about it, rather than those who stumble upon the game and experience it for the first time ..

OT (speaking of stumbl'ing , my GF 'Stumbled upon' FC whilst i as playing the other night - and she stayed for hours :)

I'm afraid the flippant screenshots didn't fix anything. I even tried with a clean Firefox profile; there's no cache issue. The tick counter is nonexistant here.

Well I think enough people here who use Firefox have stated it works fine for them (as it does for me)...so we can't really claim it's a Firefox issue, can we? I've tried it in IE6, IE7 and Firefox and it works fine for me in every one.

I don't know whether it's a Firefox issue. My current guess is it's a Flash + Linux issue. Adobe's Linux support has improved, but it still leaves a bit to be desired. It might also be a fonts issue (ie it fails to find the requested font and fails to show anything), but without any sort of config screen for the flash plugin I have no idea how to debug that.

I have linux (ubuntu/hardy/gnome) and windows (xp/vista), and OSX. All revisions of the game have worked as expected in IE6, IE7, FF2, FF3, Safari, and Chrome.

If anyone is having issues, I can almost guarantee it's a caching issue.

I discovered a while back that some odd things can occur. For example, if you tell IE6 to clear temporary files, it only clears half of them and the other half clear after a reboot only. I had no idea this happened previously, but nonetheless, it is a temporary file issue.

Suffice to say, if you press "T" and do *not* get a timer, you are using an old copy of the game.

Until someone shows technical proof otherwise I will not beleive it!

The ticks-per-second is dependant on your CPU performance and will differ from computer to computer.

The game still has a ticks/second it is configured to run at. That it slows down when a lot happens is a resource issue and doesn't affect the fact that the game is designed to operate at 30fps, as shown here:

30fps.jpg
30fps.jpg (13.13 KiB) Viewed 829 times

Thus, 30 ticks equals 1 second.
