Forum Requires EMail Auth

We've had some problems baneing users because they enter fake emails, and I want to avoid using IP bans. To get around this I am now requiring all new forum accounts be verified via email.

Is it too much of a hassle to ban the email address used, or is it more efficient to confirm signing up for the forum through the e-mail confirmation?

I figure authenticating via email is common enough online that it's not much of a hassle for anyone. I can ban based on email address but it doesn't help me if you can enter whatever with each new account to get around the ban.

No, everyone who is already active and signed up don't have to deal with the new change.

aw, my little bro made this acount and found the levels too hard so i asked to have a go and got addictid to it and he dosent have a email adress so i doubt he will have put it right, well i can still use colorfusion2.

It doesn't matter how many email address you use, because they can all be tracked back to your IP address. baneing a certain IP address will ensure you can never access the forum from your computer.

Not quite. Some people have dynamic IP addresses that change periodically.

And some people post from college IPs. Remember the day when I baned most of South Carolina? Ahhh. fun times.

baneing IP doesn't work because anyone can just change their IP
