▇▇▇▇▇▇ WHAT IS UP: THE SERVER MOVE ▇▇▇▇▇▇

Postby weasel on Sun Nov 16, 2008 12:05 pm

We have outgrown the old hardware and it was time for an upgrade, so we moved to a new host!

The new host is not turning out to do so well.

The transfer itself went very poorly, with the DNS changing several times and some database migration problems. It took a day or two just to get everything to the new host. We had a day of paypal problems and then a day of databases not syncing, and we even had to recompile PHP or something. And now there's all sorts of other stuff going on I don't even know what.

Pacifist and I are so very sorry for everything that's happened in the last few days. The last thing we wanted was downtime, and we watched in horror as our best laid plans started to fail. We realize now that if we wanted this done right we should have done it ourselves, and by handing the task over to other folks it has caused the game and this community considerable harm.

We hope you all forgive us for the trouble over the last weekend.. Maybe you all got a chance to shovel your driveways (*waves to canaduck*) or get some fresh air; always look for the silver lining, I say!

Though things seem to be solid on the surface at this moment, there are a few bugs going on in the background and we are still working hard to get things up and running smoothly, and as fast as possible. Unfortunately these bugs and weirdness even prevented me from posting to the forum before today, and I can't post an announcement on the index or anything like that.

Again, please bear with us. Should be over soon.

Is everything completely wiped out on the old server? If not, try re-syncing it.

Otherwise salvage what you can, and maybe you could rebuild and we could have a new beginning.

Yeah, no chance at saving anything old; the stuff on the new server simply overwrote the old stuff.

But I like the idea of a new dawn. Phoenix rising from the ashes anyone? :3

Yeah right now, for some reason, some people are getting a META REFRESH tag in the source. I have no idea what it's doing there sorry

Likely you don't want this to be come a discussion thread .. if so just nuke or lock ... but ...

I have that
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT=100>
tag as well. I see it with multiple browsers, even on a browser never used before anywhere let alone at
http://fantasticcontraption.com.

Weasel, could you post a URL to a page you don't see that tag on. For instance I get
it on any level free or otherwise.

fanasticcontraption resolves to 67.202.78.66 for me.
www.fantasticcontraption resolves to 208.100.52.10 for me.

It's plausible that you're still pointing at some cached address.

Ohhhh... So that's why so many haven't been able to log in or post. Deleting the websites cookies hadn't worked for everybody. But I'm sure you already know all about that.

Yeah all the WHOIS data shows the same for the domain and I'm pinging the same IP for both www.fantasticcontraption.com and fantasticcontraption.com.

I'm not seeing this "refresh" thing happening on my screen, but I've gotten word (from SK89Q of all people, not even my hosts) that our IP address is changing.

I say for now, just play directly from the flash file to avoid the bug. Click here:

my mouse wasnt moving in the direction i was pointing, it installed a WRITER file, and went to internet exploror, went to favorites and clicked F.C. and went to the new post system, then typed in ADMIN FILE(random numbers): OVERIDE/ SUCCES(more random numbers) then started deleteing and editing posts  , i relized what happened and presed the manual restart on the front of the computer, but then it went: AUXILARY POWER ACTIVATED/100% :argh: then my monitro blacked out..... then i kinda had a spaz moment..... .....i thru the computer to the basement floor from the stairs.....then the sound system started saying system error repeatedly so i short circeted it wih a garden hose  ......
