Server Outage: Resolved!

Postby weasel on Thu Aug 14, 2008 9:23 am

Hello, fellow builders.

Looks like the server went down in the wee hours this morning, but have now been restored.I beleive it was the hardware jockeys messing up a server upgrade, but I'm a bit fuzzy on the details at this time. Everyone hates their webhost, amiright? So sorry for any inconvenience you may have had saving your contraptions or accessing the forums!

I'd like to say things will be smooth sailing from here on out, but you know how computers work. :)

I see it's continuing to go in and out. Apparently I've lost one of my solutions, as it's stuck trying to save even after the server's back. *sigh* :(

Uuugh yeah the server is fluctuating. I'm not sure what's going on, and Pacifist can't get a hold of his hosting company.

Yeah, "Resolved" seems a bit premature. Not going to play today.

I have found that if I check to see if the forums are up before I save then I don't lose ant work. But "resolved" this issue is not.

Judgement day is here! The Gaug-omagog war is upon us!

For too long have you made contraptions. Evil, scheming, bypassing god's tricks! It is not god's will that the goal pieces be put in the goal place, or he would have put them there to begin with! Who are you to act against his divine will? For your sins you will now begin to pay:

"...And on the 14th day of the 8th month of the 8th year of the second millenia, man's blasphemy will have peaked. And man whilst hast built a machine of the devil. The machine of devil will be gleeming with pure evil so wretched will the machine be that describing it requires the use of one very long sentence without the use of punctuations or proper grammar so that it will be painful to read onto your minds.
The machine will become a dark hole in the java. And it will rip the java apart. And it will pull all other black-hole-machines onto itself becoming a bigger black whole, and it will consume all. And in the end the black hole will be so vast and so black that it will send the website tumbling down..." -- Book of notthat, chapter 8 verse 5-12

Repent! And you shall be saved!

So if I tried to save a contraption and it's stuck on "Working..." is there any way to save it? The cancel button doesn't work...

(feature request: let the cancel work during saving, so if the server is down we don't lose our contraptions! )

'Fraid not. The best course until the server's stabilized is to have another window/tab open and check if the forums are up before trying to save.

Ok nobody sneeze or lean too heavily on anything... the database server appears to be working.

Our hosts just flipped some magic switch that fixed everything. I don't think any of us knew there was such a switch. But I, for one, am glad there is.

Of course the whole house of cards may come tumbling down at any moment.

I for one am lighting the incense and refreshing the chicken feathers in my shrine of notthat.

No, things are still very iffy.

I'm going to try to get us out of this. But in the mean time I have to turn off the ability to load contraptions from the menus.

Sorry!

Well, so long as the server doesn't go down and I can still save I'll be happy.

Welcome to happyville! Population: everyone

Made some changes to the database structure. And I'm pretty sure I'm not counting unhatched fowl when I say that the problems should be behind us. Smooth sailing ahead!

Twister, your saves should be back. If they aren't... well... I'm sorry.

Personally I'm pretty pleased that I didn't accidentally delete everything.
