Are these badges just honor things or does the registered game apply them?

They're honored things, though my site (FC Resource) does "apply" some of them.

Champion Boomerang: Impossible? I think not! lookee here: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=920649

I THINK this qualifies as a champion boomerang... the boomerang leaves yet again, in order to eventually slow to a stop in the red.

What about the idea of a "Kudos" badge, or a "Thumbs Up", that other players can award your design? This is similar to rating, I suppose, but the egotist in me would like to see that 10 people gave me a kudos for instance, rather than a 5 star rating, cause once you've reached 5, the fun is over. :) It's basically just saying, "hey, I like this", or "this is cool and unique".

If you want to extend that, you could have a variety of player awarded badges, like a "Wow!" :aaa: badge, or "Gold/Silver/Bronze Medal" badges.

It would count as a single badge, but you could put how many a player was awarded: "Gold Medal (10 awarded)".

Just a thought...

Maybe one for compact designs with lots of parts in a small space? I managed to fit 45 into my "centipede Crawl"(awash) design.

I like the idea of designs that only LOOK like they're going to fail...

Champion: :champ: doesn't leave goal

Clean: :clean: most of mine dispose of themselves... I guess I like car designs too much. Can't build a decent catapult to save my life, but I can throw together a tank in seconds.

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=856109 this one also reenters the goal a few times.

Brown: :brown: No wheels of any kind

Have you considered adding "Unattached"?
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=889 (unattached champions)

or "Pilots"?
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=978

or maybe my all water rods? *big cheesy smile*

It'd be great to have badges for fastest and slowest solutions. That's something the game could track automatically.

Hi,

My name is quote2004focus and I'm an FC-holic...

Can I get official verification of something relating to badges, please? I was under the impression that a boomerang must return to and remain in (not just pass through) the workshop area after achieving victory in order to qualify as a boomerang, just like a champion must remain in the goal area indefinitely... Is this correct? Thusly, a design cannot be both a champion AND a boomerang
...unless the goal area is a smaller square inside the workshop area, which I have also seen.

Is my understanding correct? (I'm preparing my second set of competition levels and this may affect my designs...)

For competition purposes this has been the standard so far, yes.

With regards to champions there can be no doubt. If the goal piece doesn't stay in the goal, then it's no different from any other solution and not a champion, imo.

For boomerang you could argue, that once it has returned to the workshop, then it has completed it's boomerang, and then it doesn't really matter what it does after that.

That was a little contradictory (or non-committal :) ), but I think I get the point: After victory, boomerangs must return to and remain entirely within the workshop area indefinitely to qualify as a boomerang.

So sayeth the flock.... ;)

And I wasn't kidding about that whole "PC-holic" thing... the dog now barks at me and greets the mailman. Anyone ready to start a support group yet?
