Five New Badges!

Postby weasel on Thu Dec 18, 2008 2:25 pm

Happy Holidays!

Since most of our staff is vacationing over this winter break (except for me), things will be pretty slow. So I decided to spice things up a bit for you! I'm making official new badges! I'm not the best at 16x16 art but I hope the icons will do until we get further replacements.

:sweep: The Sweep Badge: This means you've swept the level of all the dynamic objects that started in the level (before you made your contraption). Cleaning your own contraption off the level as well would indicate a Clean Sweep, or :clean: :sweep: .

:rodless: The Rodless Badge: This is fairly self-explanatory. You only use wheels to defeat the level! No rods or sticks allowed. Yes, that will mean all of your wheels are unpowered (unless, of course, you attach them to goal objects!)

:badgeless: The Badgeless Badge: Though self-contradictory, you can obtain the badgeless badge only if your contraption finishes the level.. without obtaining any other badges! This can be hard to do sometimes. (used to be called the "Solved" badge)

:handsoff: The HandsOff Badge: You earn this badge if you don't touch the goal object from it's original starting position during the build phase! That means no connecting rods to it, and not dragging it around on the screen at all. It's not possible to touch the goal object if it starts outside the build area, of course.

:water: The Water Badge: You earn this badge by using only the hollow blue water rods. This is like the brown badge but a step harder!

Remember, it's not possible to get every badge on every level. But a good level will allow for everything. ;)

(Check out This thread for a complete list of badges)

Happy Holidays again! (and for our players in the southern hemisphere, happy summer solstice!)

All you need now is the water badge; levels solved using only water rods. I would say just use this :waterrod: but the new badges look so nice.

Hmmmm.

Is this calling for a new scoring system?

wasn't the handsoff badge previously called the penalty shot badge?
Nice idea on the Rodless badge. Although i think many levels would be impossible to do that.

Yep, HandsOff used to be called Penalty Shot. I never liked that name though. :)

Rodless will indeed be very hard, and it's more for tweaking than for skill in most cases. There are going to be a few exceptional examples to the contrary, of course. :)

Many thought the :water: badge was impossible also. I'm sure many will surprise us all.

Question:
For the "champ" badge, if you have a goal area that surrounded by static objects completely on 3 sides and all the player has to do is put the goal object in the goal to get champ, should it still count as champ?

If you get a :badgeless: , doesn't that mean that you got a badge, meaning that you don't get the :badgeless: , but then you do have no badges, so you have to get the :badgeless: ...

My brain hurts. :canada: :canada: :canada: :canada: :canada: :canada: :canada: :worship: :canada:

How about a Coca-Cola (or lumberjack) badge? Only brown rods?

Hay weasel, can you add a feature in-game where when you are viewing solutions to player levels and the original 21, it shows what badges the solutions have.

That feature is on the frequently-requested list and we'd really like to get it into the game. Just not sure how soon we can do it. Might have to wait for a sequel.

I made one. It's just like Hap's.

BTW, I came up with some new badges!
:build: The stayhome badge. (Contraption does not leave build area)
:goal: The goalbound badge. (Contraption stays in goal)
