I just made some major internal changes (moved the cache to the database and changed all the XML queries to use XPath instead of arrays), so you may come across a new problem. I went through everything though, but who knows; I may have missed something.

I also cleared the cache of usernames, levels, designs, and registration statuses of users (as I had no plans of making scripts to copy the cached data to the DB). ~15,000 cache files deleted. :pseudo:

An useless suggestion: It would be nice to be able to compare the level images. Currently this is only possible if you open both images in different browser windows and keep switching between them. Useful when you have two nearly identical or identical levels and need to sort out the differences. Could be used to remove duplicates as well. ImageMagick can do almost anything regarding image processing in a command-line fashion, and it could probably merge two wire frame images and generate a diff image, with one level in red and the other in blue, for example. Then this could even be tweaked to show a percentage based on how many pixes differ from one image to another. Let's say, Level A is 54% different than Level B, based on pixel-matching.

The better way is the compare the objects in the design and draw the similarities in a faded color. But, this would take some time to do, so don't expect it to be done anytime soon.

Some bugs were introduced in the latest changes:

"Manage my Levels" in the "My Account" drop-down has a bad link to /m/ylevels.

When you get to "Manage my Levels", the view is exactly the same as "Find my Published Designs". You can't see unpublished designs that I can tell, unless I am missing something.

Fixed! :)

By the way, sometimes the site starts to lag very badly. The most likely cause is that our mail server went on the fritz. It happens occasionally (one of us needs to fix it permanently sometime).

Changes:
Because the cache was moved to the database, I made it also cache metadata for designs and levels when you browse lists of levels or designs. Thus, for any design or level with metadata cached for it, their creator's name will be displayed on the individual design/level pages. :)

When browsing user created levels:
Is there a way to indicate which ones are unsolved on the list ? (suggestion ;) )
Maybe a number /count of posted designs for each level (so the unsolved ones would be 0) that we could also sort from most to least and vice versa.

Right now we only see a column for "quality" and "difficulty"

That's not possible, unless I wanted to rape our servers. :xd:

Update:
If you get a "You are accessing this website too often in a short period." message... please wait a few days if it doesn't disappear. When spiders, like GoogleBot, index the site, they severely pound the server and create a backlog of requests to FC. There are something like 10,000 requests per half-hour/hour for Googlebot. I need to do something about that.

Can't access anything in FC Resource anymore, only the main page. If it's not the "short period." message, it's a timed out request.

Yes. The site only stores your password on the server during the duration of your session. While you are logged in, every X minutes, the sever will verify that your password on Fantastic Contraption has not changed. Once you leave, your information will be deleted from the server. If you use the remember me function, your password is stored in an encrypted cookie on your computer, but it is not ever kept on the server.

I have no reason to steal peoples' accounts anyway. I already have a paid account. =)

Some people reported some problems with the website two weeks ago. There appeared to have been an infinite loop somewhere in the code. This is fixed now.
