I would like to see a big negative score from gatekeeper from a rodless solution. I had a rodless solution about the second day of the contest. I have slowly widdled it down but not quite as low as my brown solution. A -8 I could see as possible but if you spent time trying it rodless you will realize that to get it the low amount of wheels it would require does not provide an adequate amount of force to create what is needed to do what is needed. When will we know the results? BTW i do not believe the person who said they ended with a -9 and if shown after contest I will admit being wrong. I will say I burnt myself out a little on this tourny and miss the player made designs I just can't seem to get around to them do to my competitive nature. My prediction is their will be a few negative scores say -1 to -5, 20-30 of 0-9 pointers and a ton of double digits.

It has been fun, but it's time for me to relax a little. At first, it started out as just solving the rascals, then removing rods, and trying to remove power wheels, and trying to keep it clean, and trying to keep it champion, then trying to remove more rods, remove more wheels...AGGHHHH. Hats off to anyone who could even get close to negative or single digits for the levels. I'm sure I'll be shocked when the winning designs are revealed.

Ahhhh.
Well I finally submitted my entry.
Just couldn't tweak that extra 5 ticks of displacement.

This contest was just too addictive. I would say that it probably went on for 4 or 5 days too long though.
In the future a shorter version would probably be a better idea.
I am extremely proud of my designs, I do however believe I will not be in the top ten, I might possibly the top 25.
I have not yet heard of a design or score that beats my be a champion score of -5. so I am guessing at least with one level I have the ideal solution.
Negative scores are possible and I do tend to believe the winners will be double digit negative.

I will be posting my designs here on this thread on the 21st along with scores for each.
I look forward to seeing others designs.

Well, it's been a fun competition. I haven't seen any improvement in the last few days, but I do not agree that the contest went on too long. I know one person who is still improving, only because he did not find it until several days after I did. i think it was about right.

I am stuck at -5 right now. I could get to -7 trivially if I were prepared to use a design that I found with Google, but I am not going to cheat. If I could find one of the -6 Displacement solutions, that would put me to -10 (-12 if I stole the other design) and be right in the running. What kills me is that I have a -6 solution that is one pixel shy of being in, but no amount of tweaking seems to fix it. Every change makes it worse, including fully zoomed, right-click zoom, move it the tiniest amount possible. Some of these micro changes make a huge difference (generally breaking it completely) -- it's really quite frustrating.

Anyway, I'm glad it's over. I look forward to seeing the winning designs. Congratulations in advance to the winners!

I'm discouraged and I don't even have any real expectations of winning...(and my designs aren't too far from these either). I can't even imagine the feeling of those who have never participated in a FC competition before and honestly think they are going to win. It's humbling enough when it's a contest without a prize, against just a handful of competitors, and with only a few days of tweaking. The results of this one are going to be sick (and I mean that with two very different definitions of the word).

Personally, I wish we had a few *more* days to tweak. About four days ago, I revisited all of my designs...and hated every one of them. So I started with a blank level and tried some different approaches. For three days, I got nothing...I mean, absolutely nothing. Yesterday, it was one epiphany after another...but still, I think I'm at least one epiphany, maybe two, from having any realistic shot.

It's humbling enough when it's a contest without a prize, against just a handful of competitors, and with only a few days of tweaking.

Now I'm thinking I actually prefer those competitions. Not nearly as much drama.

The "normal" comps are definitely more "fun", no doubt about it. This comp feel more like a second job lately (although I have caught my second wind in the past 36ish hours).

As I posted earlier: I'm having trouble getting below 40 points, I can see maybe 20 or 10 points if you're really good. Anything below that is just impossible as far as my skill level is concerned.
