Over a long period of time, designs converge if they are built on the same idea. So similarities does not imply cheating.

If two are the same pixel for pixel though, it is a bit of cause for concern.

I just don't see a pixel for pixel exact design being legit. Also notice that .net hasn't posted since this whole issue came up. It doesn't seem right to me. I saw both their designs before this whole thing started and wondered to myself if they were pixel for pixel. Personally, I don't think it's legit, but i'll leave that up to the judges to decide.

As I said elsewhere, I'm definitely new to this. But I'm happy with my 45. I'm just not used to the unpowered designs. I have a couple of unpowered concept saves that aren't solved yet. And I love the designs that unfold in complicated ways.

Truly Fantastic! While I was definitely wowed by the winning designs, I'm finding many of the non-winning designs(powered and unpowered) just as jaw-dropping.

Like I said before, I think that if a specific approach to solve a level is worked on long enough, over time it will get to it's fastest, most efficient point. There is no way that aiming for that point is a unique thing, probably hundreds of us tried for the same thing. The closer any two designs get to this theoretical "point" the more similar they become. However, that being said I think that two designs are very very likely to appear almost exactly the same but a perfect match I find hard to swallow. We are human and the odds are stacked very strongly against that.

For example I believe that these two designs are legit even though they are really close - they just both got really close that that "point":

Some of the top ten guys said they were just typing in http://fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=??????? and kept going through them until they found good designs to get low scores. They said it didn;t matter if it was published if you put in any number it would show the design. After hearing that I think the contest is somewhat rigged. People didn;t have to be creative they just had to go through all the designs until they found one to change slighty. After hearing this I tested it you can view any design published or unpublished. I think some deeper digging is needed to determine winners.
