I just had a play with the level editor for the first time. This is what happened:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=23404

Although it could be made prettier, i think fits the criteria fairly well. Perhaps the build area is a bit excessive?

I've come up with a couple of solutions but i'm sure there are plenty.

too easy?

Just finished this: http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=23440

I like the perpetual motion going on. The area is a bit big. What do you guys think?

I think it looks nice (and difficult), however it lends itself to using a simple catapult; This one was my first try and took only a couple of minutes to make:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=1544841

slight modification could stop the catapult.

Wow. Nice shot! I'm a bit disappointed that you solved it so easily. :( However, maybe it would be difficult for most others. Dunno.

My first level ("Free Falling") is, I think, at least a little innovative ... I haven't seen this particular type of challenge elsewhere.

http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=24044

It's not actually very hard, though it looks impossible at first. I don't know how many solutions there are; I stopped after one proof of concept during design. I'd like to see whether other folks come up alternate solutions. There may be only one class of solutions, though variants of the same basic challenge might have more.

If you wanted it to look more obviously "impossible", you could put the goal directly above the starting area.

I like the free falling thing. Here's my 'inertia platform' solution: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=1574015
Is that the same class of solution as yours?

(I'd like to point out that I'm not a catapult addict)

Tested a bunch of stuff before I decided to copy and adapt the game level.

I enjoyed that level. The solution I came up with was actually inspired by one of the soccer challenge threads: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=1583466

I think it's actually a great level, easier than Tube, but definitely challenging enough to be quite enjoyable. It could use a little artistic flair since it's currently very blocky. A few rounded or beveled corners and some skyscaping could do wonders for the looks of it. But the actual puzzle of it I found refreshing.

Considering that this is the first level you've made, I'm VERY impressed.

Roughly, yes. Mine is still a catapult, but instead of just a heavy, high-inertia base, it uses a more action-reaction base. The bottom half of the catapult pushes on the top half for a moment, causing the bottom half to accelerate downward faster than gravity. This causes the top half to momentarily stay relatively in place, long enough to propel the ball over the top.

This is my solution. It took me a few times to get it right.
