As an aside, I ran zhyrek's design on a different computer and it works, although it glitches three different ways to do so :). My apologies to Z for the hassle. Now help me make a brown one.

Brian: I gave your first listed design a one-pixel tweak and made its sweeper about 1.5 times as fast:
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712493
Maybe that'll help?

Edit: http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712494
:) Have fun!

Edit 2: Wait...how are you going to get the ball back to the upper level?

Edit 3: This is as far as I got, and I'm not sure it's entirely possible:
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712510
The idea is that that brown slide-a-pult spans the entire remaining clearance space (it can't be made any bigger or else it'll interfere with the rest of the design) and the water weight slowly pulls it off the left side. With a chain of just the right length and enough tweaking, we can make the pult launch the ball back to the upper level right at 850-860 ticks when it rolls past. Apart from that, I'm not sure what other options we have to exploit.

I intentionally made the left design not interfere with the right design. Since the left design is quite a bit easier to make work, you can have the pult be a little bigger than that.
I originally was considering having a monorail bring it back up but it's clear that there's not enough space for that.

http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712620 don't think this kind of thing is going to work either

this is far from working. but how about something that takes a basket over the left for the ball to roll into, then its pulled back up when the catapult falls off

I like this. It just needs a way to pull it back up. I hate to say it but I think the only way to do it is to have the catapult reel it back up.
TWEAKFEST?!?!

http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712781 try something like this
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712788 best result so far
unfortunately it's different every time. Maybe {???} can figure this out again? I can't seem to make it predictable.

I tweaked your second design and got this winfail:
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712820
It wins and the pult completely misses the middle tier, but I'm studying how the basket gets pulled up to the top tier and may get both sides to work with a few minor tweaks.
Slightly better one: http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712827

It keeps winning!!! grrr I'm not getting much closer with my tweaks
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712854
but of course the one time I shoot it correctly the basket decided to suck!

Not doing anything special for me. Wins and misses the throw.

Dean, did Sumaleth's handling T-backwards work for you in 2999 ticks?

Yes it does Brian.

Here's my "progress," it doesn't go through the middle but it seems I got the basket timing right.

It used to, now the far left CW wheel fails to retrieve the goal rectangle.

It does. It seems to miss because the basket is too high. I thought about simply adding more chain, but then it seemed that the added weight brought down ALL the chain (and the basket fell too low) :/

and it's the law of fc tweakfests
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11712896
as soon as you get one working, the other fails.

Microtweaking led me to an unintended monorail. Funny but still fail.

i don't think the basket will get anywhere because the ball can drop out of it. i came up with a simple catcher that almost does its job
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11713211 just needs 2b tweeked

Fixed the code for the U-Turn longway, it should match up now. After a year and a half, I'm entitled to forget how to do some things properly. :P

As for Junkyard...
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11713513 I modified PA's catcher to turn upwards, but now it falls too far. The right side seems to be consistent, but one quickly gets tired of these tweakments :argh:

http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11713516 ...wha...?

http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11713525 okay, this one makes it into the catcher but something's telling me I need to tweak off some pieces. It's too heavy!

http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11713529 Did that and it's looking a bit better.
