You could delete that bit completely and adjust the speed of the bottom two contraptions. Maybe fix coffee while you wait.

I should have been more specific.

I realize forward motion will allow it to work if I adjusted it. But what fun is that? It would be way cooler if I could have a contraption on each level helping to speed the process up, rather than just letter it fall on its own.

Well, in my experience chain breakage is caused by the links being too short. The hard part is finding out which link is the one breaking. Once you've done that, all you have to do is make the sticks that make up the link a bit longer. I wasn't sure if you were aware or not so I thought I'd let you know.
