Brute Force Challenge

Postby skorpion317 on Tue Aug 19, 2008 8:33 am

We have challenges for being Green, Brown, using powered wheels under certain restrictions, etc.

I propose a new challenge. Solve each level through brute force. Forget clever contraptions that take precise timing or parts to complete. Forget restrictions on what you can and can't use. Solve each level by creating a contraption that either removes obstacles in your path or powers over, under or through them. All parts used (with the exception of the red piece) must be attached to the contraption.

Here's some of my solutions:

Around the Bend - http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=610299
Up The Hump - http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=610356 (there's a recurring theme here :))
Mission To Mars - http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=610531

A brute force solution to Awash obviously needs to push all of the bolders to the right.

Not quite. Your ramp isn't attached to the rest of the contraption.

The mighty caterpillar (bigger than ever) takes a U-turn:

And it's taller, shorter cousin completes the U-turn as well

I like the caterpillar, and I spent yesterday working on perpetuals for 21, so here's a rough draft:

(Only makes it around twice so far)

I saw your perpetual triangle last night and thought about adding a bridge to the caterpillar...but it was too late to tackle perpetual motion. If you add some blue "tracks" to the pink wheels up front, a shorter caterpillar might pull itself up. Then this would give you more room to make a longer bridge.

Oh well....something to do at lunch today.
