Expand an Original

Postby pojo on Mon Aug 25, 2008 10:51 am

It would be fun to take the original levels and expand them:

For instance:
Old: 4 Balls
http://fantasticcontraption.com/?levelId=20
New: More than 4....
http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=9478

In your edits:

1) Make sure it's solvable.
2) Change the way it's solved... for instance in my 4 balls edit, a conveyor belt doesn't work nearly as well as it does in the original, so the player is forced to rethink how to solve the level.
3) Don't defeat the original feel of the level, however. Make it obvious it's an edit of a level and not a brand new level all together.

List of Levels:
Rolling Away: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=91

Reach Up: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=55
Mind the Gap: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=16
Junkyard: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=102

The Wall: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=31
On a Roll: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=89

Mission to Mars: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=62

Up the Stairs: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=19
Big Ball: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=23
4 Balls: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=20
Down Under: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=24
Awash: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=28

Handling: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=69
Tube: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=76
Back and Forth: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=60
Unpossible: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?editId=54

I really like this idea...

I have this killer idea for a U-Turn edit, where I add a whole other 'U' to climb, and seal off the exits so it looks a lot like an S...eh, that might take way too long to do.

so here's my version of Rolling Away 2: http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=9512

Still solvable with 0 pieces :xd:

but now you have 3 basic paths of solving it...the easy path, the easier path, and the :argh: path on the far right...I don't think there's enough build room for the third one though ;)

I'm surprised noone else seems very interested in this idea! Anyway, here's my expanded version of Junkyard, Junkyard 2:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=9947

Made it so you actually have to go down to the second level to reach the goal. to balance the difficulty, I made the building area a little bigger. Experienced players will just get to the goal from the left side, but I'd like to see what kind of interesting things people can come up with.

Also made the "clean" challenge signifigantly more difficult with some trash that appears way off on the side over a wall. Have fun :toot:

I'm not very good with the level editor, but someone should make an Awash with Goal Balls instead of Orange balls. :>
