There are definitely a number of "wrestling" or "Sumo" boards out there and yes, this is another Arena thrown into the ring. What's so different about it? Well, there are a few differences. First off, the board itself is different.
http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=11454Second, there is no piece limit (aside from what fits on the board, itself). However, everything is weighted. Your contraption is "scored" based on the following criteria.
Each Piece gets a value.
Water Rods = 1 pt each
Unpowered Wheels = 2 pts each
Wood Rods = 3 pts each
Powered Wheels = 5 pts each
The first two Powered Wheels and 1 Water Rod are NOT SCORED (however, they do count against the total piece count). This can also read that the first 11 points of your efficiency are considered neutral. Add up your contraption's total points to get an efficiency value. The lower your efficiency score, the better. The Red Brick does not count towards efficiency or total piece count.
Of course, your contraption must be built entirely to the left or the right of BOTH green bars. Nothing may cross into the plane of those bars. You must also directly connect your contraption to the Red Square and all pieces must be connected directly or indirectly to each other (i.e., treads wrapping around wheels counts as an indirect connection). It's advised that you connect it securely as it can affect your scoring.
Now, victory conditions have negative point values. These conditions, coupled with your Efficiency value, gives you a final score.
Pushing your opponent's Red Block into HIS score zone: -25 points
Rotating your opponent's Red Block ~180 degrees*: -15 points
Quick Victory in under ~10 seconds**: -10 points
For each piece you have less than your opponent: -1 point
Slow Victory in over ~1 Minute**: +5 points
Landing in YOUR score zone: +5 points
Failing to Achieve a Victory Screen: +5 points each machine
For each piece you have more than your opponent: +1 point
* Your opponent must be rotated while still on the mat. Rotation while being thrown from the mat or afterwards does not give a bonus.
** Time values/units may change if a timing feature is introduced.
A winner is crowned by score. It is possible for the contraption who is pushed into his own score zone to actually win the match and advance based on scoring. So, be frugal but inventive in your piece design. When posting your design, name it, list the Efficiency Rating and then the Piece Count. If you challenge an opponent, list both your and his score beneath.
