Weighted Wrestling

Postby 6ft9man on Thu Aug 28, 2008 7:59 am

There are definitely a number of "wrestling" or "Sumo" boards out there and yes, this is another Arena thrown into the ring. What's so different about it? Well, there are a few differences. First off, the board itself is different.

http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=11454

Second, there is no piece limit (aside from what fits on the board, itself). However, everything is weighted. Your contraption is "scored" based on the following criteria.

Each Piece gets a value.

Water Rods = 1 pt each
Unpowered Wheels = 2 pts each
Wood Rods = 3 pts each
Powered Wheels = 5 pts each

The first two Powered Wheels and 1 Water Rod are NOT SCORED (however, they do count against the total piece count). This can also read that the first 11 points of your efficiency are considered neutral. Add up your contraption's total points to get an efficiency value. The lower your efficiency score, the better. The Red Brick does not count towards efficiency or total piece count.

Of course, your contraption must be built entirely to the left or the right of BOTH green bars. Nothing may cross into the plane of those bars. You must also directly connect your contraption to the Red Square and all pieces must be connected directly or indirectly to each other (i.e., treads wrapping around wheels counts as an indirect connection). It's advised that you connect it securely as it can affect your scoring.

Now, victory conditions have negative point values. These conditions, coupled with your Efficiency value, gives you a final score.

Pushing your opponent's Red Block into HIS score zone: -25 points
Rotating your opponent's Red Block ~180 degrees*: -15 points
Quick Victory in under ~10 seconds**: -10 points
For each piece you have less than your opponent: -1 point

Slow Victory in over ~1 Minute**: +5 points
Landing in YOUR score zone: +5 points
Failing to Achieve a Victory Screen: +5 points each machine
For each piece you have more than your opponent: +1 point

* Your opponent must be rotated while still on the mat. Rotation while being thrown from the mat or afterwards does not give a bonus.
** Time values/units may change if a timing feature is introduced.

A winner is crowned by score. It is possible for the contraption who is pushed into his own score zone to actually win the match and advance based on scoring. So, be frugal but inventive in your piece design. When posting your design, name it, list the Efficiency Rating and then the Piece Count. If you challenge an opponent, list both your and his score beneath.

[Edits: Increased Score for Rotating Enemy & Fast Times; fixed Score for Having More Parts than your Opponent]

Now, the Zamboni Machine has just entered the arena to clean off your block. Are you going to let him?

Zamboni Machine FC v1.0
Efficiency Rating: 7
Piece Count: 6
Zambonie Score: -12
Red Brick Score: -1

The Wedge
Efficiency: 7
Piece Count: 5

I'm unclear how to score the rest, I know I have a

+5 from slow victory
a possible -25 if by making the enemy do a 180 you mean flipping it
and -1 for having one less point that the zamboni

so the wedge' score would be: -21?

am I missing anything else?

so results are:
Wedge:-21
Zamboni: -12

?

Remember, when figuring your score, you take whatever modifiers you gained and add them together with your efficiency rating. Also, your free parts only include the water rod and two motorized wheels. It's not a free 11 points on the efficiency.

So, working from top to bottom.

mikn31's The Wedge VS. The Zamboni Machine
The Wedge
Efficiency: 9 (3 wood rods)
Parts: 6
Score: -14 (-25 (Win)+9(Eff.))
Zamboni Machine
Efficiency: 7
Parts: 6
Score: +7

Wedge Wins!

seniorxj's The Shovel VS. The Wedge
The Shovel
Efficiency: 84
Parts: 33
Score: +86 (-25(Win)+84(Eff.)+27(Parts))
The Wedge
Efficiency: 9 (3 wood rods)
Parts: 6
Score: -18 (-27(Parts)+9(Eff.))

Wedge Wins!

Joust VS. The Zamboni Machine
Joust
Efficiency: 6
Parts: 4
Score: -21 (-25(Win)-2 (Parts)+6 (Eff.))
Zamboni Machine
Efficiency: 7
Parts: 6
Score: +9 (+7 (Eff.)+2 (Parts))

Joust Wins!

The Sweeper VS. Joust
The Sweeper
Efficiency: 3
Parts: 4
Score: -22 (-25(Win)+3 (Eff))
Joust
Efficiency: 6
Parts: 4
Score: +3

The Sweeper Wins!

eksjae's "Winner" VS The Wedge
"Winner"
Efficiency: 12
Parts: 7
Score: -12 (-25(Win)+1 (Parts)+12 (Eff))
The Wedge
Efficiency: 9 (3 wood rods)
Parts: 6
Score: +8 (+9 (Eff)-1(Parts))

eksjae's "Winner" Wins!

eksjae's "haha." VS The Sweeper
haha.
Efficiency: 13
Parts: 8
Score: -8 (-25(Win)+4(Parts)+13 (Eff))
The Sweeper
Efficiency: 3
Parts: 4
Score: -1 (-4(Parts)+3(Eff))

eksjae's "haha." Wins!

Speedemon's "Emergency" VS eksjae's "haha."
Emergency
Efficiency: 8
Parts: 5
Score: -20 (-25(Win)-3(Parts)+8(Eff))
haha.
Efficiency: 13
Parts: 8
Score: +16 (+3(Parts)+13(Eff))

Speedemon's "Emergency" Wins!

Now, obvious, the scoring may be a little wonky. If anyone feels that different score awards should be given or additional ways to lower your score, let me know. I'm trying to keep things interesting.

C'mon, folks. You gotta start scoring your contraptions here. It took me far too long last night to go through and score everyone's contraption out for them. I left the complicated math on the board so you could see what I was doing.
