Video Game Console (TTC Corporation)

Postby macklin on Fri Aug 29, 2008 12:28 am

Two factions of TCC Corporation split to be the first to bring a video game console to the market.

In this game the first to enter the market will make 6 million over the next year, while the second to come competitor will make only 4 million over the next year, as the public shows more regard for the first producer.

Yet, profit is king in business. If you can make a super efficient, cheap machine that although finishes second is much less expensive than the first model, you can still win in the stock market investor's minds as the superior company.

The supplier's realizing now that you face new challenges to bring your product to market have altered the prices of their supplies:

PRICE SCHEDULE

Powered Wheels were 50,000 ... now 150,000 each
Unpowered Wheels were 8,000 ... now 20,000 each
Water Poles were 4,000 ... now 50,000 each
Wood Poles were 6,000 ... now 20,000 each

Prices overall increased because your suppliers realized your profitability, but some increased much more than others because now, over coming gravity is the obstacle and lightness and power are disproportionately more important.

Score.

Your Revenue. 6 mil or 4 mil.
Minus
Your Expenses.
Equals.
Your Profit.

The Battleground: (gravity advantageous)

Non-gravity advantageous
http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=12102
In this one the pink goal piece must start somewhere underneath the green starting area, though you can build entirely upon your own side.

Two variations of winners...
One with high ceiling
One with low ceiling

Basic Rules:

-Each side has a 55 piece limit.
-Your video game console has to start out under your side's green marker at the top.
-You cannot willfully interfer with the other competitor's advancement (Anti-trust laws). If coincidentally your machine impedes the other's advancement it counts as if he could finish second as if you were not there, thus, still finishes but only wins the four million.

Secondary Concerns:
There is no limit to what you can do, exept the exploding glitch, because must likely you would damage the product. Otherwise, hop it, skip it, pull it, drag it, push it, shoot it, slingshot it... All viable.

Winning is marked by you crossing your side of the pink line first, not having to fully enter the entire goal area.

Awards will begin to be posted after two days of competition.

It seems like there should be a limit as to how high you can lift the thing to start

Excellent idea but I can see a problem with that kind of map. I was trying to build the same concept (speed challenge between two competitors) but due to design tool it is impossible.
How could you be sure that each side of your map is totally identical ? It seems that the left side is more easy.

To be able to create exiting challenge the design tool should be improved.

The better way to improved it will be to be able to create our design with MS-paint or any other picture software (a bmp 16-colors picture ) :
- The static objects will be green
- The dynamic objects will be yellow
- The Goal area will be red
- The Starting area will be blue

This picture will then be imported to the design tool. This will give you your map. The last thing to do will be to include the goal circle or square...
I dunno if it is a huge upgrade or very difficult to do but with that kind of tool we will be able to create more sofisticated design (Copy part or your map, mirroring static objects, etc...).

the only possible minor adjustment... is that you probably shouldn't be able to build in the goal market area.... meaning, someone else could have a long design which your wood piece may impede thus causing a dispute to first entry into the market, as the pink part is what matters, but think of a truck pulling a load, your wood may stop his truck from advancing far enough for the load (goal piece) to pass... slight mod though and you'll still win.

Here's how I did it. I got two equally sized pieces, then slanted them to touch the a green piece below them, thuse two equally sized pieces slanted and touching the same point in the center means they are geometrically the same angles and the same lengths. After that I sculpted things to make them look better. For the roofs, I stretched a green piece across the middle as a measuring stick and then set the roofs on the long green pole, so that they would yield the same height, then I erased the measuring pole. Afterwards I used a green piece to measure all the parts by measuring one side and then moving and measureing the other side. It all lines up. Then when I tested it, I stretched a wood piece, then moved the wood piece and measured again, it all lined up.

So if it came down to the very slightest, very tine fraction of a infantismally small amount... it's a tie.... go to the production expenses to settle the tie. both get five mil minus expenses equals profit.

I believe that is against the rules to "Impead" the others progress. Like hitting him with a pole. This is pretty much a "speed" race.
