I had a thought - what if (in future comps of this type) the loser by the smallest margin in round 1 is allowed on to r2, if needed to fill a gap caused by non-submittals. I haven't figured out who that would be in this comp, but it would give someone like mtdewd or Kladdy a chance to play on and it would fill the gap in r2.

I ran through a few different ideas in my head including this one. I also thought of giving the losers a level to have 24 hours to solve, and the winner getting to face compscure with the remaining time.

But since I hadn't stated it in the rules to start the comp, it would have been really unfair to compscure. I doubt he would have minded, but the seeding was entirely random and he got a lucky draw.

In the future (if people want another comp like this) I will institute one of the above methods in the case of a double no entry.

not a bad idea, cool-j. 'Bout time for another turn at hosting for you, ain't it?

Bye gave me all I could handle this time, though.

FWIW, jkhouw's bracket tourneys were plagued by this too, and that was during the heyday. I think some of the levels were just tougher than people are used to seeing.

Really looking forward to seeing these solves. My guess at piece count for the 3 other levels is 20.
No idea what an optimal solve will look like for them (or for mine either ;) )

Again, my hat is off to bsking. Look I look forward to and dread the next round (which is just how it ought to be :) )

Early release of the next two levels? Whether I advance or not, I want something to work on.

on the upside, ours i s a lot less likely to go to a tiebreak

I still want to lose a piece. suspect you'll cook up something impressive

curious if anyone messed with my level from last round and came up with anything good.

Good job compscure. I knew a 6 was possible but did not have the inclination to tweak it.

Nice job in r2 Cruiser. I had the same starting design as you, but then I rushed to get something done and added those two extra pieces. I guess that explains why you're playing and i'm hoping ID36 hurries up and starts another comp. Good luck.

For the record: my solve was 10 pcs - not 9. Before my submittal I counted three times and still got it wrong, but it should have been 10.

Thanks for hosting bsking.
