Elimination Competition

A new generation of elimination comp has begun! Put your tweaking skills to the test by entering this optimal piece count competition - with a twist!

The Scoring
Piece count x Piece type modifier

Modifier
:cwheel: :ccwheel: Powered wheel: 0.4
:upwheel: Unpowered wheel: 0.3
:woodrod: Brown rod: 0.2
:waterrod: Blue rod: 0.1

Ex. :cwheel: x2, :woodrod: x3 and :waterrod: x1 = 6 piece count x 0.7 modifier (0.4+0.2+0.1) = 4.2
If you use all 5 piece types, your modifier will total 1.0

The Rules
The winner of each round will win immunity, granting the user the chance to proceed to the next round so long as they provide a solution. After each round, half of the competitors with the weakest scores will be eliminated. If multiple people are tied at the elimination line, they will all advance. In the case of a tie for first place, tick count will be the deciding factor followed by weight.

The Submission Form
Please use the following format when submitting your designs.
design link - name - piece count x modifier = total score @ tick count
ie. http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=xxxxxxxx - ID36 - 10 x 0.4 = 4 (ticks)

Re: Optimal Solutions Elimination Comp! Qualifier due Dec 28th

Congratulations to Cruiser on winning, not immunity, but the comp! Man, it was a close final, and having seen the designs, I admittedly felt a little guilty that the level was too restrictive with little freedom for design creativity, and so for that I do apologize. But I have to say that it was a fun comp to run and to my amazement, we had a great turn out and an exciting final. Hats off to all three finalists!

Final Round Results
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11379784 - Cruiser40 - 9 x 0.2 = 1.8 (710) :woodrod:
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11384420 - patacoman - 10 X 0.2 = 2.0 (755) :woodrod:
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11378719 - cooljenny - 11 x 0.2 = 2.2 (755) :woodrod:

Congratulations to Crushmeister on winning, not immunity but, top score for round 4 with an awesome 7pcer. And a double hardy-handshake to cooljenny aka jennysdad aka the upcoming tsar. This FCer has seriously come a long way since I first saw him on FC. Initially short-changed as the default winner of any comp where he was the only entrant to submit, cooljenny has seriously stepped up his game ten fold and is now, in my opinion, one of the top dogs (perhaps in the A class rather than the A+ class but still) this guy has skills. Best of luck to all in the final!

Round 4 Results
http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11375083 - Cruiser40 - 7 x 0.2 = 1.4 (16,015)

Congratulations to patacoman again on winning immunity for round 4 with a crazy 3-piece design! I was tempted to write single-digits equals shaky ground but I chose to wait and let your design speak for itself when the results got posted. I no doubt bet Paleo and cooljenny are shocked to themselves place 2nd and 3rd :) I loved the variety of this round. The 'Awesome squib' award goes to WizBang! and the 'Clever balance' award goes to cooljenny!

Congratulations to patacoman on winning immunity for round 3 with a magnificent 5-piece design - very minimal - just the kind of approach I've grown to expect from him :) WizBang also narrowly missed out on immunity with an equally impressive 5pc and separate design approach. The 'shock and awe award' for this round goes to a very deserving design by Cruiser with a water rod solution which really took me by surprise :) Also a 'roflcopter award' goes to uuuiiiooop for taking full advantage of his immunity by wasting no time in submitting his 119-piece monster lol. The 'I'm no sheep award' goes to RingKingLeo by being the only person to let the goalpiece drop through the mini-break and flick up at the left.

Awesome. We have 16 people so far which is enough for 4 rounds after the qualifier. Ideally, I'd like 8 more people to enter to bring it up to 24 for a possible 5 rounds. If you know of anyone not already in the comp who might want to play, shoot them a PM encouraging them to join :)

A few weeks ago I tried to get a couple of the contraptioneers from FC2 to come over: specifically Wizbang and vr4guy. I'll try again.

Our apologies Cousin Bisam. I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say we were all thinking about you and how much we would all want you in this comp. We just thought you were letting our anticipation grow to feverish levels before submitting your typical average solution.

I got a PM back from Wizbang (on the other side). He's not interested in coming over here. I think he's missing out, and we're missing out on a really good contraptioneer.

He also does a good job hosting comps, so it would be a win-win if he came over here from time to time. Maybe someone else could try PM him also?
