Those having login problems (UPDATED 1.25.11)

UPDATE 1.25.11:
I tried helping someone else fix their account this morning on my phone, and it didn't work at first... I realized what the magic from using the iPhone originally was... I had javascript disabled before.

javascript seems to be what's enabling the quick page flashes and stuff on the site. So, you no longer need a mobile phone to fix this issue. The -actual- problem seems to be that, for some reason, the "too many login attempts" flag get's stuck, and the pages flash too quick to get to the security text-image required to reset the flag. SO, to fix this issue on your own, try this:

1. Disable javascript in your current browser (in firefox, it's a checkbox in Tools -> Options -> Content)
2. Try to log in as normal.
3. You should now get to a page that says you've exceeded the number of login attempts, and there is a security image (where you have to type in the letters/numbers you see in an image) as well as type in your username and password again. Do that.
4. You should now be logged in to your account. Logout, and try to log back in as normal. It should work now.

Of course I'm still happy to help anyone that has trouble, but for those of you that might have been hesitant to send over your password and didn't know someone with an iPhone to try, there you go...

This may or may not help you out, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

This morning, I tried to log in to FC, and I got the same problem that some of you have described in the past. Login issues, a quick flash of a "too many login attempts" screen. None of the "resend me my password" type links work, deleting cookies doesn't work, etc etc...

I figured I was screwed, and would have to make jdelgado07 or something and lose my precious #1 in FC post count.

However, as you can see, I'm posting from my account! Here's what I did.

I tried to login on my iPhone. Safari on the iPhone took me to the "too many login attempts" page, but it didn't flash and go to a different page, it stayed there. I typed in my login info again, and typed in the letters from the security image as the page requested. I was able to log in.

Still on my phone, I went to the User Control Panel and found my Account Settings. I changed my password to something else.

I was then able to log in on the computer without problems.


If you are having this problem, try what I did. If you don't have an iPhone (and obviously I haven't gotten to try on another mobile device), feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to try to fix it for you. You could send me your username and password, and I could try to get in and reset you to something new, then you could log in and set it back to your own password. Some of you may feel uncomfortable giving out your password, even to a non-working account. That's fine. Find a friend with an iPhone.

This is very helpful, Jdel. I just figured out how to do it without an iPhone, too.

If it's doing that whole exceeded login attempts flash, try to stop the page with perfect timing. If you do manage to get it, just type in your info. If the picture fails to show, right click and select Show Picture.

This is with a Windows computer, BTW.
