Thanks for your reply, Phil. I agree entirely with your last post. Personally, I use ellipsis in my forum posts so I'm all in favour of colloquial speech. The purpose of my reply was just to be anal retentive. It's nice to know that we can have these chats and that I can discuss English language questions with a fellow teacher here.

You have to factor in personal style as well. Sometimes writers will appropriately use fragments and runons to better capture the style of colloquial speech or to isolate a certain thought.

In case you were unaware, it's perfectly acceptable to start a sentence with a conjunction. But it is generally frowned upon.

I teach at a private language school in Singapore. Before that, I was teaching in Malaysia but the school went into administration and I was made redundant. Rather than find another job in Malaysia, I decided that Singapore would be safer and more convenient for my wife and son as we were previously living 1km up a mountain. I also have some money invested in a property in Malaysia which is currently on the market and so I need to be around for when it sells.
