It's mostly a simple design (compared to Brian's customary, complicated but more powerful catapult). Note the shape formed by the small moving part of the pult-arm and the pivot point on the weight-drop--some variant of this 4-sided structure is present in almost any powerful catapult.

Okay so some of you may remember awhile back I figured out this thing I called the "rianmech" which was a one-way mechanism designed to make it easier to reuse weights and handle heavy loads

UNSUPPORTED BRIDGE:

I began with the principle that the rectangle was going to need to be pushed up and then stopped, then restarted again. So I came up with this stopping mechanism:

See the diamond quadrilateral with the chain inside? That's the rianmech.

After realizing that that couldn't be made to restart again, I ended up with something that works in the same way, but a little different:

this design is an improvement for the scenario because all I really need to do is remove the wood and it will restart again.

Anyways; that's cool, but not what I wanted to show. I had a moment where I realized that a couple pieces really aren't necessary...all you need is some kind of brace!

here's this. the first arm is stabilized by a rianmech, then the next two are stabilized by another mech, then the weight falls and unravels the last two arms while the rest of the extender is relatively stable. The only limit here is the strength of joints.

Notice the "rianmech" on the left side which braces against the static wall, although there are no chains in the diamond. This 4-piece bracing structure is technically the minimal design with rianmechiform characteristics.
