i could make a collab video. i just want to know what movie editing software you guys use. windows movie maker doesnt let me speed the video up (or at least i havent figured out how to do so)

In Windows Movie Maker: right click, press V on your keyboard. Then choose "Speed up, double" as many times as necessary--I usually require 2 of them, so the finished product 400% of original, recorded, laggy speed.

Okay, I give. WLMM is just too bloody hard to operate. I'm just going to publish the cinematic titles and whatnot to .wmv's and then "bounce" them into plain old Windows Movie Maker on my other comp. Best of both worlds...since there's pretty much nothing else I like about Live Movie Maker.

New post because the previous one seems a bit out of date to me now...

There's been a little problem. Once I have all the video clips imported, for some reason the video is now nearly an hour long (!!). I'm cutting out the lag sections and speed-trimming the contraptions (i.e., ball rolling for a long time on a horizontal platform), but this is going to take some time with ~42 designs ALL having this lag problem.

Good news, in spite of this, I'm halfway done with the video and am now looking up some more DRAMATIC songs to go with the theme. For those of you on IRC yesterday, this video will have a bit of a surprise. For those of you who were not...that's two surprises.

sounds awesome...i know most of the previous vids are in x2 speed or something similar.. maybe try that if it doesn't mess up the original eloquence of everyone's designs it has worked okay in the past imo. sounds like you are putting some serious effort into this :D

There's more than one reason I let ken75 in so readily and willingly Nix the little "~" sign I made up there--it's exactly 42 designs .
And I'm doing more of a ~Jon~ style edit: "speed up the slow parts, slow down the ipecac parts." But if anything is going to eat up my time it's syncing the rest of the movie up with the music...

Edit: All right, folks. Crisis averted, the first round of lag elimination editing has reduced this movie to a viable 13 minutes and 4 seconds. Subsequent rounds and movie maker magic forthcoming.

Edit 2: Just under 11 minutes, two songs added+synchronized with video. Two more, and then it's all just rapid-fire clicking. The lengths I'm going to to find these songs...I've worked on videos for hours before, but this has taken almost 18 hours so far!
